Bare, Exposed, and Naked

The thought of exposure can be applied to several situations. It is often mentioned when people are vulnerable to natural disasters. In some cases, it unveils hidden information to reveal secrets. It is used when a truth overturns a lie, and facts undermines fictions. Also, it is applied to physical and spiritual nakedness, as indicated in the Genesis story of Adam and Eve.

God so loved His human creation that He willingly saved their lives from sudden disastrous influences. Adam and Eve became vulnerable when they did not heed God’s warning. But God considered the devastating consequences that would occur if He had not intervened. Adam and Eve’s actions removed them out from under God’s spiritual protection. They were exposed to the craftiness of Satan. Although that old serpent was not named Satan during that era, his deceptive action can be considered as a satanic attack. He deliberately directed his attention to God’s human creation with the intent to deceive and gain access and control of their physical earthly realm.

Apparently, Eve was naive and unsure of God’s instruction concerning the tree of knowledge of good and evil. She was deceived by the subtle twist of words, and Adam may not have known the severity of his decision. But, as king of the earth, he had dominion. His actions and words dominated in his earthly kingdom. When he acted against God’s warning, Satan obtained access and influence over the earth and their lives.

Spiritual Protectant

But God’s Love for Adam and Eve sustained their lives. They did not surely die as God had warned them. Instead, God’s became their physical and spiritual protectant. Even though He punished them for disobeying the warning, God covered and protected them from Satan destructive influences. God made the first sacrifice to atone for their sin, and the sacrificial offering became a requirement throughout the Old Testament.

Physical Protectant

A protectant is a substance that provides protection against harm. It covers from things that would cause destruction, injury, or death. Physical protectants can protect against frost, heat, and anything that corrodes and destroys. Antifreeze in a car radiator protects the engine from overheating in the heat of summer and freezing in the cold of winter. Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV radiation and sunburn. Also, certain hair oil treatments protect hair from environmental damage.

Furthermore, human love can also be a protectant when it is applied sincerely toward one another. The love a child receives from parents and other family members that truly care for the child’s wellbeing is a protectant. A righteous love emanating from pastors, teachers, and others involved in guiding and influencing a child’s positive growth in life is a protectant. Likewise, the sincere love between husbands and wives is a protectant that encourages a strong-bonded relationship. As the Bible informs “the man shall cleave to his wife and the two shall become one” (Matthew 19:5).

Our Spiritual Protectant

“Hear you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding” (Proverbs 4:1).

God desires a bonded relationship with His human creation. “You shall love the lord your God with all your heart…” (Matthew 22:37). Therefore, adherence to instructions is require for spiritual protection. Without it, people are physically exposed and spiritually naked succumbing to the craftiness of Satan.

“Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil and cleave to that which is good” (Romans 12:8).
