A Prayer of Hope

Spiritual Journey of Praise

“When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto your soul; discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you…” (Proverbs 2:10-12).

An appreciation for poetry can heighten awareness of God’s concealed messages in many poetic style verses within the Bible. The verses in Proverbs 2:10-12 presents poetic metaphors equating human thinking with the heart and the human mind with the soul. The verses inform when Wisdom from God is received then discretion and understanding will preserve and protect life from evil or wickedness.

Spiritual Growth

The poetic metaphor in the above verses similarly equates the heart with thinking in Proverbs 23:6. In 1 Corinthians 13:11, human thinking is equated to a child’s mind when thoughts are devised from lack of knowledge or foolish decisions making resulting into numerous errors in life. But diligently seeking God’s Word and applying His knowledge, decisions are made more discreetly.

Spiritual Correction

Though the body matures physically with age and the thinking obtains understanding from community and family influences and interactions, spiritual growth comes from the Word of God. As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 inspires, the Word give correct instructions that leads to God’s righteousness for human life. His Word rebukes and reproves as a parent that corrects a child.

In summary, while God has concealed many poetic messages throughout various chapters and verses, those who wholeheartedly believe and diligently seek will find them and grow spiritually from applying them. As Mary, the sister of Martha, sat at the feet of Jesus Christ desiring to hear every word He spoke, God’s Word has become my hiding place where I have attentively searched for wisdom to apply His righteous Word for life gained through faith in Jesus Christ.

“Thy are my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word” (Psalms 119:114).
